St. Lucie Ballet opened its pre-professional dance academy in August of 2004. Since then we have gained a reputation of quality and professionalism in the education of dance. Students are taught by professionals that have or have had successful careers in the dance world.

We wish to provide our students with the best training in dance, to support their mental and physical growth and development, boost their self-confidence, to help them be the best of themselves whether they are dancing or pursuing other studies or career paths and finally to enhance lives with the beauty of the fine art of dance.

Lydia Oquendo Corrales – teacher, choreographer and performer.

Lydia began her dance training at the age of five at Dancers Point Academy under the instruction of Gerri Barreras Caruncho. At college she continued her education with ballet, modern and jazz at the New World School of Arts in Miami, Florida. Lydia then attended The Miami International Ballet studying under Maria Teresa Carriso, former Ballerina and choreographer from Argentina. Lydia’s been company member with New Century Ballet, Miami Hispanic Ballet, Ressle Dance, M.N., and Project Lulu, M.N. Lydia’s last important employment was at Minnesota Ballet in Duluth Minnesota. Here she was a company member, teacher for the school, guest teacher for the company, choreographer and Outreach Coordinator. Lydia has over 15 years of dance training and 10 years of professional dance and teaching experience.

Rogelio Corrales – teacher, dancer.

Rogelio was born in Cuba and studied with many of the best ballet masters of his country. He graduated from the National School of Ballet in Havana were he studied methodology, history and anatomy along with a rigorous ballet class schedule. Some of the companies he’s been part of are the Metropolitan Ballet of Caracas, Ballet Juvenil of Caracas, Bay Ballet Theatre of Tampa, Lexington Ballet, Ft. Lauderdale’s Ballet Classique, Columbus Youth Ballet, Sarasota Ballet, Minnesota Ballet and Ballet Florida. Rogelio has played the principle role in The Nutcracker, Coppelia, La Fille Mal Gardee, A Midsummer Night’s Dream, Sleeping Beauty, La Sylphide, Swan Lake, Giselle, Don Quixote, Le Corsaire, Cinderella and other classical and contemporary works. Rogelio is an excellent coach and teacher and has over 24 years in the life of dance.

Performances

There will be two performances a year for levels Pre-Ballet and up, the Nutcracker suite in the winter and the spring performance.  There are several Saturday rehearsals scheduled before the performance. Parents must sign a commitment letter and pay a performer fee. Call or come by for more policy information.
